Dr. John Cheetham

Minister

Dr. John T. Cheetham was called as the Pastor of First Presbyterian Church on May 1, 2001. He was born, raised and received his early education in Huntington, West Virginia. He and his wife, Mary Margaret, have six children and Eight grandchildren. He received a BS degree from Marshall University in 1976; a Master of Divinity degree from the Methodist Theological Seminary in 1981; and a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in 1988. Dr. Cheetham has 34 years of pastoral experience. He served as a United Methodist Pastor for 18 years, and has served 16 years as a Presbyterian Pastor.

He immediately filled the much needed role of spiritual leader, counselor, pastor and friend to all who enter.  During the Sunday morning children's message, he often surprises the children with small hand made items to help them understand his message.  He's active in our sanctuary and Handbell choirs in addition to his other duties.  Communion is taken by Dr. Cheetham to the homes of our members who are unable to attend services due to illness.  Dr. Cheetham and his wife Mary Margaret are a welcome addition to our church family.
